The Portable Professional

Your work has outgrown the structure that first gave it shape.

For years, your expertise has been developed inside institutions that gave it direction, language, legitimacy, and opportunities to make a meaningful contribution.

That training was real.

It gave you knowledge, discipline, skills, and a body of work that no longer belongs to any one role or institution.

But many high-achieving professionals eventually reach a point where what once felt inevitable doesn't quite fit in the same way.

It's as though the identity that got you here no longer adequately contains who you've become: the work might be meaningful, but something has shifted.

Maybe the opportunities you've spent years preparing for have become increasingly scarce.

Maybe the role feels smaller than your capabilities.

Maybe you feel pulled toward a different kind of work, but can't yet see what shape it could take.

What these moments tend to signal is not the need to start over, but to use this foundation as a launchpad for a different kind of trajectory.

You're not losing what you built. You're learning how to carry it forward without being confined to the structure that incubated it.

The Portable Professional is where that transformation lives.

A Different Kind of Professional Development

Most professional development programs help participants succeed inside existing professional structures. They teach you how to become more visible, more competitive, more effective, and more promotable within systems that are already defined.

But for many experienced professionals, a different question eventually emerges--one that those systems were not designed to answer.

"What do I do when the structures that inhabit my work limit my growth and reach rather than open new avenues of impact?"

At that point, the challenge is no longer performance inside a role. It is how to hold your expertise outside of the framework taht originally shaped it.

The Program Process

Over eight weeks, we'll move through a structural process designed to help you see, name, and articulate the professional identity you've already built but have not yet been able to fully claim outside the systems within which you shaped it.

This program is not about inventing a new identity. It is about recovering the one that has been obscured by institutional language, role constraints, and inherited definitions of value.

Together, we will:

  • surface the implicit frameworks that have shaped how you understand yourself and your work within existing institutional protocol,
  • distinguish your actual expertise from the roles, titles, and systems that have constrained them,
  • identify the core capacities that remain consistent across contexts, positions, and career phases,
  • translate institutional language into language that reflects how your work actually functions,
  • clarify the underlying direction your work has been moving toward all along,
  • construct a professional profile that can move across roles, sectors, and forms of work without collapsing. This process culminates in the development of both a short-form and long-form professional narrative—language that allows you to communicate who you are, what you bring, and where your work is moving with greater clarity and ownership.

The work we do in this container is not a branding exercise.

It is a process of making your existing professional identity fully legible--so it can be carried forward intentionally on your terms.

What Becomes Possible

During the program, participants move through a structured sequence of frameworks, guided writing, and facilitated reflection designed to surface what has been implicit in their professional experience.

Through audit, excavation, pattern recognition, and language-building exercises, you begin to see your work differently--not simply by naming it, but by uncovering what was already there and not fully articulated according to your standards.

Each stage of the program generates specific outcomes:

  • A professional identity in your own terms: participants begin to articulate their professional identity without relying on institutional language, credentials, or role-based definitions.
  • A coherent through-line across your work: participants identify the underlying logic behind the disparate roles, projects, and career phases across their professional trajectory.
  • A self-authored professional language: participants develop precise, usable language that reflects how their work actually functions, which can act as the basis for bios, conversations, applications, external positioning, and the short-form and long-form professional narratives created by program's end.
  • A direction-based decision-making process: participants transform career decisions from constraint-based evaluation (i.e. "what am I allowed to do?") to direction-based orientation (i.e. "what do I want to move toward?").
  • An expanded sense of professional possibility: participants begin to recognize their expertise as portable across contexts, not confined to the system in which it was originally formed.
  • A continuity through transition: participants develop continuity across roles, sectors, and phases of work rather than reinitiating a new identity with each professional shift.

What you leave with

Participants leave with a fully articulated professional identity that is no longer dependent on institutional framing for coherence. They have a structured way of understanding their work, a through-line that connects their experience, a new language that makes their professional profile legible across contexts, as well as a short-form and long-form professional narrative that will act as the foundation for what you build next.

The culmination of this work is the creation of two professional narratives: a short-form narrative that allows you to clearly communicate your expertise and value in professional conversations, and a long-form narrative that captures the evolution, direction, and through-line of your work. Together, these narratives provide a foundation for how you present yourself, make decisions, and carry your expertise forward.

Who the Program is Designed For

The Portable Professional is designed for experienced professionals who have built real expertise inside structured systems--and are nos realizing that those systems no longer fully contain what they know, what they can do, and what they have the capability to build next.

Ideal participants may include people who:

  •  have advanced degrees or professional credentials and are questioning what those credentials now allow them to become
  • have followed a defined professional path and achieved expected milestones, but feel a growing mismatch between their existing work and their professional trajectory
  • can clearly perform their work, but struggle to describe its value outside the language or frameworks of their institution, field, or job title
  • are in transition, expansion, or uncertainty--not because they lack ability but because the current structures that support their existing output no longer fits the scale of their thinking
  • are considering new directions (adjacent work, independent practice, consulting, leadership, or even reinvention within their existing positions) without wanting to erase what they've already built
  • feel that their professional training has facilitated work that is fragmented across roles rather than coherent as a single body of work

This program is especially relevant if you are not trying to 'start over,' but to make sense of what you've already built in a way that travels.

This program is NOT for you if you:

  • want a checklist for choosing a new career path
  • are primarily looking for support and optimization in developing your resume, CV, Cover Letter, other application materials, LinkedIn profile, and/or job search tools
  • are not willing to question the frameworks that have shaped how you define your professional value
  • want external validation of your next step before developing internal clarity
  • are looking for passive consumption rather than active construction of your professional narrative

A Note on the Founding Cohort

The Portable Professional is being offered publicly for the first time through this inaugural group.

The Founding Cohort represents the first set of professionals to engage with this work in a shared experience. I approach this first iteration with a deep sense of appreciation for the professionals who are choosing to step into this work at its beginning, and with a sincere commitment to honoring that choice through the experience we create together. The reflections, questions, and insights from this group will refine the program as it continues to grow and evolve.

Because of the role you play in bringing this work into the world, Founding Cohort members will receive benefits that will not be available in future cohorts, including:

  • lifetime access to The Portable Professional online community forum (for the life of the program)
  • one private 30-minute Momentum Session after program completion to personalize the feedback and experience
  • preferred alumni pricing for future offerings for programming and resources related to The Portable Professional
  • early access to new programs, workshops, and expansions of this work
  • continued access to refined or newly-designed self-guided and downloadable resources for new iterations of The Portable Professional course

MEET THE COACH

At the heart of my coaching philosophy is the belief that meaningful work and a fulfilling life begin with understanding the whole person. My approach is holistic: your professional, personal values, and sense of purpose are deeply interconnected. I help clients uncover the patterns, assumptions, and possibilities that shape how they move through the world so they can create lives and careers that feel aligned and authentic.

With 20 years of experience informing my methodology, I bring together deep reflection, strategic questioning, and structured frameworks to help clients illuminate not only what they want next, but what has informed how they see their options. My role is to help you recognize the expertise, strengths, and principles you have already developed--and translate them into a direction that reflects who you are becoming.

My clients often describe this work as clarifying, empowering, and transformative. Together, we discover patterns, expand possibilities, and create new ways of envisioning what is possible. Whether you are navigating a transition, redefining your professional identity, or designing a life that better reflects your goals, I provide the space and structure to help you move forward with greater clarity and ownership.

I look forward to working with you!
